Chieng Yen is a commune of Van Ho district, Son La Province. It is about 150 km from Hanoi. The residents here are mainly people of Thai, Mong, Kinh, Muong and Dao ethnicity.
The roads here are built on mountainous areas, leading to them being small and steep with low quality.
Our group climbed up to the commune and found our knees about to fall off. Haha, climbing 1km on mountain road is truly as tiring as running 10km

The shortage of electricity is a common problem that people in Chieng Yen face every day. They often avoid going out at night because the roads are dark and slippery, making them very dangerous.
In order to set up this trip we had done many small charity projects to raise a total amount of money of 6.000.000 vnd.
Together, we installed a solar light system. This is a practical and meaningful action, helping to improve the living conditions of the people here as well as helping the local tourism to develop.

Street lamps were set up to help local people feel safe going to work early in the morning, and children feel secure returning home from school at dusk.
We also helped locals harvest corn.
Repairing roads
I hope to return here in the future to the hospitable locals and the friendly children.
