Inspiration
After participating in a project on analyzing user experience at Monkey Junior, I realized the appeal of Data Science.
With the widespread use of AI,everyone has thought about or at least heard about the importance of data science a few times. However, very few people actually have a clear view of what data is and how to utilize it.
I want to spread this knowledge so that students like me can better understand its importance as well as potential in the future.
Looking for teammates
Unable to carry out the project alone, I searched through my friends list, connected with relationships to find people who were capable and persistent in pursuing data science. After 2 months, we were able to form a team of 4 people. Each person has their own strengths and weaknesses, together we made a good team. The starting team is small, which require a lot of determination and enthusiasm from each of us in order to make the project work.
Impressive numbers
23 meetings took place:
Before establishing the facebook page, we had 5 meetings to agree on the group's goals, the entire team's methods of action, and the division of tasks to each member. The monthly plan ,name and design of the page logo is also discussed.
It may sounds simple, but when we put them into action there were so many things needed to be handled.
While working on our facebook pages, we had another 10 meetings to come up with the content of each post. Throughout this process, I realized how much I still needed to learn.
During the process of preparing for our online workshop, 3 meetings were held to review the script, the targeted guests, and who our guest speakers will be. Many steps were taken in order to create a small workshop.
200 hours spent on the projects in a year
Sparkline took up quite a lot of my time. Each night I would sit at my desk studying data documents, trying out codes to include in my project post.
Due to self studying and self-experimenting, I made many mistakes leading to wrong results costing me many restless nights. One time I called the entire team into a meeting post midnight because the deadline was approaching but I just couldn't seem to find out how to debug my code.
40 posts and 1.1k page followers
The current number of posts on the page is 40, attracting 1.1k likes. Although quite modest, this is the effort of the whole group. We are quite proud of our achievement given the aim of the group is to stimulate people's love and interest for this science subject.
60 people attended the workshop with 3 sharing speakers
It must be said that the sharing session was successful beyond our expectations. There were 60 students and parents participating in the sharing session
3 speakers with impressive backgrounds, having studied Data Science at famous universities like Georgia State University, The University of Adelaide, Swinburne University of Technology.
