I started collecting data at Early Start by playing with and observing children. I watched as kids explored the app. By carefully observing and taking notes, I realized that there are many things that could be done better with an application that is currently used by 10 million children around the world.
Using my personal experience and the knowledge I acquired after observing the children, I have drawn the flow of user behavior from when users download the app to when they started trial learning.
When testing the app, I realized that at many points, I wanted to give up. For example it is tiring when i want to choose the users’ age since i can only slide up and down to select the age instead of being able to type it in.
And many other steps...
I started looking into other English teaching applications for children. Then drawing the flow again, then observing the children again...Finally, I came up with a proposal for a change to the Monkey app.
Lucky for me, my opinion attracted the attention of the manager, and I was allowed into the process of improving the app and testing it on a number of Monkey Junior’s users. The project goal is to simplify the app’s process and add games that are more suitable for children.
After a period of implementation, parents' shares about their children's academic achievements on the Monkey app in the testing phase have made me really proud.
The data we recorded shows that we have increased the number of children usage of the app from 4 times to 6.7 times per week.
Because the trial state showed positive results, our improvement will be included in the version of Monkey Super App that the company is implementing with the expectation of being launch later this year.
Ever since being involved in the app improvement project, I have found a special interest in data. With data you can analyze a problem and solve it effectively.
